A CT scan tells me that I have generalised cortical atrophy with this being predominantly frontal - and, frustratingly, that’s all I can say about my condition.
It’s taken me a long time to get this far. I’ve realised for months that something neurological wasn’t right: no other explanation fitted my symptoms of apathy, anhedonia, loss of empathy etc..But the Consultant Psychiatrist I had at the time refused to countenance any such possibility . He told me that I was too young, and that my high cognitive rating meant I couldn’t possibly have dementia.
I have since moved, and a new MH team have been better at listening - hence the CT scan. But now this lot are reluctant to diagnose without further tests, so I am on the list for a SPECT scan.
I’m finding the waiting deeply frustrating. Arrangements need to be made for my future care, and I just plain want to know what’s going on with my poorly brain. But at least now I feel that I am being taken seriously.

Thanks Pete - not always easy, but getting a definitive diagnosis helped
