You Cannot Catch Dementia
You cannot catch dementia
It isn't like the flu
You can't become infected
From someone next to you.
It isn't like a virus
That jumps from soul to soul
The causes of dementia
Are ones we can't control.
It may be your genetics
A lifestyle choice you made
Or simply random circumstance
That caused the retrograde.
Don't think your life is over
If you're diagnosed my friend
You've a lifetime of experience
And wisdom still to lend.
Your value hasn't lessened
Your worth has not diminished
So don't believe the doubters
Who say your life is finished.
Live and love and laugh a lot
Fill your days with song
Pack your life with happiness
Show them that they're wrong.
Dementia's not a blessing
But it's really not a curse
It's a blessed, rotten nuisance
But things really could be worse.
So count your blessings daily
And keep your loved ones near
They won't catch your dementia
There is no need to fear.
